IT’S A WORD!
看 (kàn) carries the meaning “to look,” but it is also a word that can be used independently.
Here are some example sentences of this word in action:
Usage 1 – “to look“:
kàn nàge hěn kù de nánrén
Look at that cool guy!
男人- nánrén- man
wǒ kàn yixia
I’ll take a look.
nà zhāng kǎ ràng wǒ kàn yixia
Let me take a look at that card.
张- zhāng- measure word for cards or other flat rectangular things
zhège diànhuà zhōng kàn, dànshì bù zhōng yòng
This phone is for show not for use.
Usage 2 – “to think; consider”:
kànkan zài shuō ba
Consider for a bit then speak again.
nǐ kàn tā zhège rén hǎo ma
Do you think she’s a good person?
