IT’S A WORD!
拍 (pāi) carries the meaning “to clap, to pat”, but it is also a word that can be used independently.
Here are some example sentences of this word in action:
Usage 1 – “to clap, to pat“:
tā pāi le yixia nàge nánrén
He patted that guy for a moment.
男人- nánrén- man
wǒ pāi le yixia tāde jiānbǎng
I patted him on the shoulder.
肩膀- jiānbǎng- shoulder
Usage 2 – “to take (a picture), to shoot (a film or video)”:
wǒ jīntiān yào pāi zhàopiàn
I want to take pictures today.
照片- zhàopiàn- picture, photograph
tāmen zài pāi diànyǐng
They are shooting a movie.
