PICK A PROP TO REPRESENT 本
Think of this as a massive notebook, perhaps one you remember very distinctly from your past. Or maybe, Ryan Gosling from the movie “The Notebook.”
IT’S A WORD!
本 (běn) carries the meaning “current; this; present”, but it is also a word that can be used independently.
Here are some example sentences of this word in action:
Usage 1 – “current; this; present“:
běn yuè wǒ kāishǐ gōngzuò le
I started work this month.
开始- kāishǐ- to begin
wó běn yuè gàn le hěn duō gōngzuò
I did a lot of work this month.
多- duō- many, much, a lot
Usage 2 – “measure word for books”:
wǒ kàn guo zhè běn shū
I’ve read this book before.
书- shū- book
These sentences are only meant to give you some context; you don’t need to think about them too much for now. Just know that you can’t truly learn a word until you start to see it in the context of a sentence.
