If you really want to get to know a person, you need to see them many times, and in different contexts. It is the same with words. Experiencing how words behave in the context of a sentence (usually referred to as “grammar”) is where you really start acquiring Chinese.
Like most people, we had no idea how to learn Chinese grammar, other than how we learned in school. It was taught as “sentence equations”. A sentence is seen as a math problem to be solved with a correct or incorrect answer. Like this:
“(Chinese Grammar Word) + (Verb/Adjective) = (Correct Grammar) -OR- ≠(Correct Grammar)”
Learning like this creates the very common (and very unfortunate) situation of “studying” Chinese for years and still not speaking Chinese fluently.
Think about it this way: Which textbook did you use to learn the grammar for your native language? None! You learned through listening to, and later on reading, words, phrases, and sentences, you can understand. This is known in the linguistic field as “comprehensible input”.
Our brains are equipped with a natural ability to notice patterns in language after enough exposure, and this is exactly what our system is designed to deliver to you.
The ultimate goal of the Mandarin Blueprint method is to give you access to comprehensible input as quickly as possible. When you “unlock” new words throughout the sequence, we will give you at least one great sentence for each usage of the word that is made up of words you have already learned at that point.
If the sentences are made up of characters and words you already know, you can utilize your intuitive pattern recognition to naturally acquire grammar, as opposed to trying to logically puzzle it out. All you have to do is see enough sentences that your brain figures out the patterns on its own subconsciously!
After using our system of integrated characters, vocabulary and sentences for a very short while, you will find yourself able to read and listen to Chinese sentences and understand them completely without the help of pinyin.
